The landing page on ozfoz needs a 'Enter as guest' link to drive more traffic or lurkers in.

Many of the forums are dying due to Facebook. Worth while adapting or do small changes.

+1 to the above, I'd go further and suggest the landing page be scrapped and `ozfoz.com[.au]` go directly to the forum index page. Currently the brickwall login page is costing you all of the "authority" provided by any direct links to the ozfoz domain(s). Adding a link to the forum index would send 1/3 of the link power of the domain to each of the three links. Adding `rel="nofollow noindex"` to the Register and Sign up links would be an improvement if keeping the landing page and adding any kind of Browse as guest link.

Have you given much thought on doing a URL rewrite for directing all ozfoz.com.au requests to the ozfoz.com?

Yep, it's on the 'to-do' list once our fearless leader Magus is able to do some tweaking on the back-end of the forum. :)

This is far too important to have sat idle for a year. Search engines (esp google) will be penalising OzFoz substantially for the duplicated content across the two domains.

Fortunately Facebook, LinkedIn etc are forcibly de-ranked for authority because the content of the domain covers such broad topics so it's relatively easy to beat them for focused topics, which is why individual forum threads will beat facebook pages.

If The Powers That Be insist on keeping all content available through both domains, at least decide which of them is considered canonical in the `viewtopic.php` template. eg:
Code:
<link rel="canonical" href="http://ozfoz.com/viewtopic.php?params=go-here" "/>

Instructions from Google

I don't doubt that if you spoke the language that sparkies use amongst each other some might also label it "gobblygook jibberish". My post was for Pete and the other mods, who I believe have the internets competence to understand it.

You learned how to use your bloody phone properly yet smartass?

I'm largely illiterate in this regard, which is why I (very sensibly) don't have direct access to the actual 'back-end' of the forum (apart from the parts accessible via the forum software).

A bunch of stuff is on the 'to do' list, but there's no ETA as yet

Suggestion: rewrite the entire forum to SSL / TLS only mode for instant SEO ranking boost... Minimal cost $10/yr for the cert and some testing time. Every time my password is submitted or POSTed without encryption makes me scared...

What have you got to hide on the forum? So long as you're not using the same password you use for internet banking or anything important like that, you've got nothing to worry about.

Google now prefers HTTPS sites over HTTP. The non-forum competitors (facebook) are HTTPS.

andrew_k, I agree with everything you had said.

Facebook is taking over because it is accessible. Everyone's friends & families are on there, has a mobile friendly interface, apps and lots of social content. Businesses love Facebook because they can target a specific demographic & groups for their campaigns.

However forums have structure. With structure you can maintain and search content. The board index, sub forums, thread titles and content make it perfect for SEO and the ability for ozFoz to be found and increase traffic.

Here are some suggestions:-
- Having multiple domains just cripples the search optimizations.
- The ozFoz website is not mobile friendly.
- Migrating to a new forum platform can instantly gain a 'responsive' web design and enhance mobile functionality. I wouldn't be surprised if half of the users on ozFoz mobile.
- Also, the newer forum platforms are SEO optimized, should make it easier for search robots to index and increase the search ranking of threads.
