Hi all,

I was thinking... (dangerous, I know!)

The tech sections are still lacking the kind of info that I had always envisaged, largely because my grand plans for investing a significant amount of time in preparing detailed FAQs simply haven't materialised. Not enough hours in the day!

So... why the heck don't we simply do it together? Many hands make light work etc.

Firstly, I figured I could create a thread on each tech section where we can brainstorm the kinds of things that we'd like to see FAQs or techncial threads created for.

Secondly, we can then ask people to post the relevant info in the threads (whether it is existing info from elsewhere on the forum, or fresh info) and I (or other delegated persons) will consolidate the info into a pre-determined format/template of sorts.

Thirdly, after we've created the threads, people can then make ongoing suggestions or link to relevant info or threads for inclusion in the FAQs/tech threads.

Happy to consider creating some kind of 'technical specialist/editor' privilege to provide editing access for people who are fairly cluey and are happy to help with the compilation and editing of the FAQ/info threads/posts (the 'other delegated persons' referrred to above).

Unfortunately integrating a proper 'wiki' into the forum software is beyond us at present.

I do think that improving our technical content and FAQs will help both new and old members immeasurably.

Happy to hear people's thoughts and suggestions!

IMO Wiki's don't really work anyway. On all the other forums im a part of, the wiki's just get ignored. :(

How about a thread, where in the Opening Post's body you have links to FAQ "sections". They link to new thread's with the title of that particular section. Then in the Openign Post's body, they have all the FAQ's for that topic. When you click it, you go to a post in that thread that has that question at the top and answer underneath?

That way if people wanted to link to them, it would be easy. Also would make it part of the forum and easy to understand. You could also lock the thread.

Saves all the effort and hassle setting up and maintaining a wiki. And very easy to navigate.

You know there's pretty heavy fines if you get caught doing that, so I hope you had your windows up and a towel over your lap to hide it!!! ;)

Sounds like a good idea Pete. Personally, I think a "Tips for buying a used Forester" thread would be helpful. Including things such as basic pricings and 'what-fails-when' information.

Perhaps if we had wikis in the model specific sections, would make it easier for people to find the info they need.

Yes this is a great idea. Seems alot of the things I search for are on sites such at GTrydaz so would be good to integrate some new and current info, just re-designed for reading.

great idea Pete!

My initial thoughts, similar to Goose's, Wikis don't "work".

I like the idea of having FAQs segregated by model; IMO there is a dearth of info on SFs and SGs readily available but not so much on SHs (even though they've been on sale for five years now...)

I also think that it might be worthwhile having "two" threads for a number of the FAQs, tech info sections: one for the 'categorical' information that is closed to general discussion and then a second thread for the discussion; the first thread being updated as new information comes to light from discussions between members. Point of 2 threads? Some people may not be interested in the trials & errors of how the trailblazers work what fits, what doesn't, etc., and they can just go to thread A, find out that for their "A" car, suspensions "X", "Y" and "Z" will bolt right up with no other modifications. >>This one<< that waali started I think is about the best that I've seen

I think that's almost what regular forum posts are for Sean. I think the FAQ's would just need their own page, and info feeds into them from regular posts.

Set out kinda like the DIY's

An example of the FAQ for the SH9 Forum (just basic structure and operation).
