It begins with me wanting a cheap rear wheel drive second car to muck around in. I wanted a BMW as i'm an apprentice BMW technician. I found a guy wanting to get rid of three E28 models. I ended up buying all three for $600 and towing them home.

The brown one has a blown head gasket and is only good for parts. The white one threw a leg out of bed, and it also only good for parts. The green one runs but has body damage, it is also manual unlike the others. They are all 1982 528i models with a 2.8 litre straight 6.

They plan was to swap straight parts off the spare cars and fix it up without spending much on it.

In this time i also replaced every fluid and filter possible as well as making everything work like it did from the factory. I then got it registered and it drove like a dream.

This was when i started really liking the car and what its like to drive an old classic. It has everything you could want especially for a 31 year old car. Central locking, electric mirrors, power steering. Also things that modern cars don't have like brake pad wear indicators and active check control.

I figured it was cheaper to buy another car instead of painting panels. Luckily i found another in the same colour for $650 also with a blown headgasket.

Then other things happended like AC delete, tow bar delete, home made straight through diff back exhaust and removal of all emissions related components (no CATs from factory :D)

Fast forward another couple of months and i lowered it and cleaned up the paint and chrome pieces.

Nice buy!
The E28s go awesome, especially in manual! There was a bloke who used to live down the road from my parents place who had a british racing green one with gold wheels...and a straight through muffler as well  sounded insane!

I have skipped heaps of photos and things that i have done but you can read more on my stance works build thread here.

They are definitely a great reliable car. It came with nearly 130kw at the fly when new. Not bad for its age.

Currently planning a 3.5 litre high compression engine conversion.

Apprentice tech? Mate, from your build thread you are more like a Master Tech.

You certainly know how to do a lot more than I do.

Well done. Might have to pick your mind as I have been looking at older beemers myself recently. Have in mind a 740 for lux cruising /commute and towing my boat. Huge fan of the old 6 series coupes too.

I miss the one I had. Looked exactly the same as the Gold one at top.
In fact, very, very the same.

Two questions, are the BMW logos on the wheel centres layered vinyl?
Is that some sprayed over dodgy bog job on the rear PS wheel arch?

Thanks for the response guys, didn't expect that for an old car on a subaru forum.

It would have been a nice colour in its day, the paint is wrecked on this one however.

I think the center emblem is all one piece, definitely not layered (apart from maybe a clear top layer).

Which car are you referring to? My green one has bog in the rear which is starting to crack unfortunately

Nice first car! They arent cheap if you need to replace lots of parts like that. Luckily i have a surplus of parts :P 1j conversion would be epic!
