Got the grinder out today, starting on the rear doors.

Fairly straight forward job, just need to get the intrusion bar out by drilling out the spot welds.

Couple of rivets and a bolt in the guide channels to keep the window in place.

Cheers to Kyle for a few pics of a door he cut up that gave me a bit of an idea of what to do.

Will tidy up with some paint and pinch edging once I get the intrusion bar out.

On another note, I’m finding the grinder quiet therapeutic

Yeah will trim a bit more out of it, not really much left but will tidy it up a bit.

Another place you can pull wieght out of is the diff outrigger bar. These have some big solid steel wieghts welded to them. Must be added mass for some kind of NVH absorption. Anyways, they can be angle grinded off on a race car.

Pics?

Loving the angle grinder at the minute

I sent these pics through to your phone. But thought id put em here aswell for others to see. 3 of them are welded on. And there is 2 lighter bolt-on rubber lumps aswell. From what i can tell, they serve no real purpose besides possibbly added mass for NVH absorbtion.

This one is probably the biggest and easiest to do. The lump sits real close to the driveshaft uni / diff. So i guess its there to soak up any minor imbalance.

Got the side intrusion bar out, spot weld drill and a bit of persuasion sorted it, about 2kgs itself.

Tidied everything up with some more pinch edging

Re mounted

Quiet happy with the way it turned out and quiet surprised the difference in weight when swinging the stripped door compared to the drivers doors whilst on the hinges.

Easy 5kg I reckon

I reckon I could sort one in half a day now that I know what needs to be done and take my time.
