What constitutes a compatible seat?

As stated in post#1 I'm no expert, but it will likely revolve around the positioning/spacing of the holes for the straps in the seat back. It could also be that on some seats the back of the HANS device interfering with the seat and pushing your head forward more than would be comfortable.

I doubt there would be many seats out there being made (now) to the FIA standard that aren't compatible. I'll look up the specific standard for seats and add it

haha sorry to harp on! But i think if one or 2 people read these threads and get one, and later need it in an accident then its worth it!

That's the reasoning behind the thread, Russ.

You mentioned the need and I thought I'd try to share the answer for "but what do I or can I get?"

I've been looking at some sort of restraint for a while but have fallen into my usual procrastination over a purchase. Like some people I manage to drop more than the equivalent amount of $ on things to help me go fast, but not that much on vital things that may really help me if I run into something.

^^^ Been to see those guys recently, and the prices are not tooooo hefty if you factor in shipping from overseas (I was considering getting a Bell helmet too). However ........ I recently bought a Stilo helmet from Rallynuts, that was on sale, because it was the last one in stock in that model and it just happened to be my size (already knowing that it fit me!). That was $927AUD + $73 shipping (original price, helmet only: over $1150AUD). My Stilo helmet is fitted with the appropriate posts, hence my previous question about compatible seats.

Exchange rates may not be favouring our AUD atm, either! :(

$1000 helmet vs. mulit-million-dollar head = easy decision!

Yeah the Bell deal/special is pretty good.

I went out to Revolution this morning and tried a few on. Ended up going with a full face Bell & Hans device for $949. Brett was very helpful, spent a lot of time going through everything (I'll chuck some pics up in my build thread later).

Honestly, 3 weeks ago I didn't think Id be buying one of these but after Russ's comments & sitting in my harnessed race seat, it really hit me that with the slightest bump/shunt it would be so easy to get whiplash (or worse). There is such little movement of you body allowed once you're strapped in, your neck would just get smashed.

CAMS currently has a deal where it is $545 delivered for a Stand21 Hans device. Along with that you get a $25 rebate for your next license renewal.

Yep. 2 weeks delivery (minimum) is about the only downside.

Just a heads up, after chatting to the guys at Racer Industries last week they reckoned they could do a Schroth Hans device for $450.

Their website doesn't show that at all, but he (Dean) said if I'd rung them up and talked "Hans" and mentioned the competing offers out there they would have done a deal.

I'm guessing that unless you're lucky enough to be just the right height and shape, the standard WRX seats won't allow for the correct belt placement and retention with a HANS device.

H-are, what seat and harness are you using?
