I've just been recommended 'Track Addict'.

Has anyone else had experience with smartphone apps?
- what's good?
- how to get the best out of the app (necessary add-ons, etc)?
:drinks:

Ive heard if your using any phone based lap timer app, to get best results you should look into getting an external GPS reciever with a decent sample rate.

Ive personally never had good experience with phone apps. But thats mainly because i dont take the time to learn the app or set it up for point to point racing like i was dping a couple of years ago.

That and also because with having 2 gopro cameras, and data logging the ECU and getting that all setup before a run, ontop of all the normal stuff you do, id always forget etc.

Pipe dream for the car is to eventually get set up with a race technology data logging / lap timer dash display, and have that CAN bus into the ECU. Which would be a one stop solution for all lap timer/data logging/display functionality.

I used Racechrono on my samsung paired with a Qstarz external 10Hz reciever for a few years and it was within .01/.03 of the official Natsoft timing consistently.

Cheap way of getting instant times. Logging of anything else it obviously does not do.

This. If you add a decent bluetooth OBD2 you can link that in for rpm/throttle and anything else the ECU can give.
