Hello.

I'm not sure what the original tyre size for you was, but based on your experience if my standard size is 225 / 60 / 17 (diameter of 701.8mm) do you think a jump to 225 / 65 /17 (724.3mm) or a 225 / 70 / 16 (721.4) would possibly be doable? I don't mind having to apply some force to a deflated tyre but I wouldn't want to damage any foam surrounds etc.

Any comments appreciated.

Yeah bud...i just read your thread.... using a ratchet strap to reduce the diameter of the tyre should work as i have my tyre on the roof as i don't have a compressor once i purchase one it'll go back in the wheel well in the boot...

Also my original tyre size is 215/60 so fully inflated it goes in the wheel well

Hey, thought I'd share my experiences too.

Went with some AT's one size up from stock (215/60/R17 for my 06 XT) and only managed to get it in the spare tyre well after some foam cutting and lots of amateur panel beating. It juuust fits but requires a lot of effort to get it in, plus i have a boot liner to remove any visible discrepancies between the spare tyre panel and surrounding ones.

When I get a compressor I will deflate it slightly to make it more manageable but currently its in there at road pressure, hence the difficulty!

Running Yokohama Geolander AT-S's if it helps

215/70R16 fits in the SH spare wheel well while fully inflated.

I have some old 16 inch rims now. I have decided that I will get them sandblasted and cleaned up before fitting them with new tyres. I will then be giving the ratchet straps a workout with 225/70/16 as opposed to stock 225/60/17. Hopefully someone else will be able to test it out and post their results as well. Hopefully I will get this all sorted before too long.
