Hi All,
I have just purchase a second hand 2007 Columbia Edition Forester for my partner after not having a Forester for a number of years. I am a bit excited.
But as I live in an area with a lot of wildlife I am looking at what sort of Bar I should fit on the car. Mainly have Roo's, Wallabies, Wombats and Possums getting around on the road at night.

What would be my best option to Protect the Front End? I have had a quick look and can't seem to see anything that I like. The ECB bar look expensive for what they are.

Any input would be great, and if you know of anything for sale. Please let me know.

Cheers,

Sam

Very nice!

The ECB bar is an over-bumper type bar. It's a roobar, not a bullbar. Still gives protection, but not as strong as a full bumper replacement bullbar & reduces approach angle.

You have a few options for a full bumper replacement bullbar. The best is SubaXtreme, not cheap but very good! Also Queensland Bullbars does a nice one, plus Irvine Bullbars.

TJM don't do Subaru bullbars anymore after their fire destroyed the jigs, but you can still find 2nd hand ones occasionally. If you do see a bullbar advertised 2nd hand jump on it... do not wait!!! They never last long

Your other option is to get a tube bar custom made at a local fabricator or modify a 4wd one like the old Hilux, something of a similar size & shape

Been down that same path, and actually gave up trying to find the "right" solution.

Apart from staying off the road at night (yeah, sure  ) what NL said are your choices - either a full bumper-replacement job or an over (well, UNDER actually) bumper type like the ECB. The latter do significantly compromise your approach angle. Some of the full bumper replacement types do NOT protect the lower bits at the front corners, which are not just voids as you are probably aware. Wombats are the biggest risk to that area.

Would definitely recommend a SubaXtreme Bar, they are the beefiest and best for protecting from roo strikes. See my photo of my foresters

Green with custom fitted 03-06 SubaXtreme Bar
Black with Cast 06-08 SubaXtreme Bar
White with ECB Type 8 Bar with custom heavy duty mounts (Sister's Forester)

Sam.
I see you're located on the small island too.
We get a lot of animal stuff here....

There was a second hand ECB bar on the G Tree for $300 last week.....goneski me thinks.
You could try Weldrite at Invermay. I just put a bunny bar on my XT. I'm sure they could fab something up.

Or go for a maximum 4 poster like my old GT!

Thanks for the info guys.

I ended up getting on fabricated at Weldrite in Launceston. I will post a pic when it is all done.

Cheers,

Sam
