I have a 2008 my09 xt forester which I'm going to trade or sell.

Can I sell my car privately without a RWC ?

Cheers

Is it registered? Then yes. https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/regist ... oadworthy/

In Queensland a roadworthy certificate is called a safety certificate.

A safety certificate is needed when a registered light vehicle is offered for sale in Queensland, or when re-registering an unregistered vehicle. It confirms that a vehicle has passed a minimum safety standard inspection.

You must display a safety certificate on a registered light vehicle from the moment you offer it for sale, including when you:

list the vehicle for sale online
display that it is for sale in public
drive the car with a sign in the window offering it for sale, including wording such as 'Buy me or interested?—Ph 1234 5678'.

I've always understood it that in Qld we DO need a RWC when selling a car, privately or otherwise.

Individual dealerships might have their own arrangements on trade-ins however.

U will definitely need a safety cert to sell privately in qld, legal requirement. Unlike NSW, cars here dun require yearly safety checks no matter the age of car hence the only time this basic check is done and mandated is when car is put up for sale.

Of course due to its one off nature and potential safety issues, mechanics will always find some reason to charge you extra for quick "repairs" whether it be a light bulb somewhere or a rear tire not up to scratch and need rotation

I thought if it's registered it needs the cert bit you can sell it unregistered without one.

Simple rule: If the car is registered then you need a RW to sell it.
If the car is un-registered then you can sell 'as is' without a RW

But the price would be crap! :-)
