Hi Guys,

New to the forum and I'm looking to purchase an SH modified Forester. Do any of you have experience in buying a modified car interstate and then registering it in SA. I know they need to do an inspection, but what do they look at during it, is it just VINs and build plates or are they looking for modifications. What would be the best course of action in your experience.

Thanks in advance.

Dylan

They do check of modifications. But don't know how in depth they go with it. A mate bought a stock EVO X Bathurst Edition in QLD which had aftermarket rear lights. He had to remove them before he was given the all clear.

I bought a modified SH from WA a few years ago, when you get your VIN and build plate check they do also have a quick look at the car. They checked my lights, tyres and a basic safety check. They do look for any mods that standout coilovers, bov, etc.

When I put my SH through the numbers check S&J automotive advised me to put the stock suspension back in, change to stock mufflers, remove bov, boost gauge, strut brace and also change the wheels to hide the brembos. (Try and make the car LOOK stock as possible)

On a side note I may be selling my Foz soon if I can find a certain type of car I’m looking for.

I bought mine in NSW and bought back to VIC, the things I got pinged on (and had to fix):
- Wheels too big (20" - maximum 2" larger than stock in VIC)
- Tint too dark

Surprisingly did not get pinged on coilovers, however I think I just got lucky. Definitely check the state rules applying to the vehicle versus where you are purchasing from

I purchased my fully modded Foz from SA and had the pre purchase inspection conducted at S&J Automotive.

They didn't advise to do anything to the car for registration or RWC required for me in Vic.

Exhaust, coilovers, aftermarket wheels mine looked nothing like stock.

Passed RWC easily for me.

I bought mine from Sydney with mods (nothing too crazy...exhaust, suspension, intercooler, sway bars, strut bars, tune, etc.). Got it inspected at regency with all mods attached and had no problems. The exhaust has a varex muffler too, which i believe is illegal, and that was fine.
