Hi team,

I would like to install a shift light, don't laugh........

I have a flat-foot shift tune, with rev/torque match. The Foz takes off pretty quick, the shift light needs to come on at or on 5500RPM before 7000RPM. Rather that stare at the dash, I would rather be focusing on the road ahead. The problem I have is 1st & 2nd gear....... Plus my prescription driving glasses make the dash a little blurry.

That is the reasoning ...... You might say listen to the revs, tried that, occasionally hitting redline/fuel cut as it sounds like it still wants to go........

Anyway, I am looking at putting a concealed light in the dash, like the MCM video. So it means that I have to find the tachometer wire.

Has anyone done this and know what colour the wire is???

Thanks in advance.

What do you think this is, a forum where people are into performance mods or something?

:P

BS aside, I wouldn't mind one on a 4-speed auto for when i'm up-changing in "manual mode".

When I looked into this I ventured outside my little safety bubble of ozfoz and found many similar requests on other Subaru sites. Was disappointing when people proposed the same question and the thread turned immediately very sour and became a chest beating exhibition on how “you are not a real racing car driver if you cant shift on cue”..
I’ve been caught out a few times and decided to go with an audible shift indicator like the STI’s using a piezo, that way you dont rely on a visual cue.

Was it this guy posting about being a real racing driver?

I have a progressive shift light on my car. Its actually very handy while racing. Specially in the low gears that blast by so quick. Like you literally have fractions of a second in each gear. So def need a visual que when you want to shift.

Agree with Bram and everyone above, sometimes you don't have time to be constantly looking at the tacho so a shift light would be good! I usually shift by hearing on the track but I would say it wouldn't be consistent..

Toby, nice link to the video. Doesn't your gauge have a built-in shift light? Mine does but I didn't hook mine up. Next time, maybe I should!

No shift light in the ECB-1 gauge. Only a warning LED if target Boost is exceeded.

Shift lights are great, put one in. Cant help with SH tacho wire though sorry.

Free yourself of the keyboard warrior fear.... Shift by feel.... fark me. Its 2018 and there are lights that allow you to get every shift exactly right, without a second thought. Tell me again exactly why I shouldn't run one??
