Hi all, i'm sure i've seen info about this on here before but i'm not finding them now, i'm after info on putting a late model steering wheel with stereo controls into my 04 and heated folding mirrors too, i know i've read something about running an extra pair between mirrors and i wondered if its worth the hassle of trying to add stereo controls to the wheel?
Cheers, be nice.....

Mirrors just need the two foking wires to go from one side to the other. You can find them at the plugs that seperate the door wiring from the body wiring.

Steering wheel controls will most likely require a compatible clockspring and connectors to it. Then run the wire to the HU.

The steering wheel controls are only 1 (or 2) wire. Even though there are multiple individual buttons. 1 wire being the control wire, and the other being to earth.

Each button switches the single control wire to earth. But each button has a specific electrical resistence inline with it. And that is what differentiates each individual function and allows it to all communicate over a single wire back to the HU.

So would that mean there’s possibly a port at the back of the HU the steering wheel wires could plug into?

Not if the stereo never had controls to begin with.

So I’ve been in contact with aerpro for stereo to wheel conversion looms and they’ve come back with parts that round up to about $120 on eBay, can I diy it cheaper or is that just the go?

Out of interest, would this wiring/resistance setup explain why pressing (eg) the "volume" control too many times too rapidly causes the head unit to interpret it as a "next track" request?

(Noting that i have an aftermarket Parrot brand head unit with the steering wheel commands wired to it).
