hey Guy and Gals , i have had intermittent problems with my remote key 2009 forester , working and not working having to unlock the car with the key to get it open when the buttons want work. i found banging the remote the most effective but obviously not ideal . i changed the battery with good quality brands to no avail and this was happening with both remotes . i pulled them apart many times for them to work for a few days at most then back to intermittent use . i finally got sick of the bloody things so split the remote to expose the circuit board and exposed the problem , the contact for the outer rim of the battery positive i think came off the circuit board so i soldered it back on ,both remotes having the same problem. Bingo both working faultlessly and subaru wanted to sting me a few hundred for replacement key and re program .now i find out after a discussion with one of there employees its a common fault with that type of remote 3 button on many subaru's , my wifes Xv 2014 are the same remotes. Hope this helps anyone else who could possibly have the same problem and i can post up some pics if required at a later date. Cheers Paul.

Nice one. Once my remote failed. I went to manually unlock the car with my key and found out someone had changed the ignition barrel and key but forgot about the door lock cylinder. It was in the middle of the night and far from home. Not fun!

We had the same problem so we took it to Subaru and they fixed it for free. It a known problem by Subaru, it is the battery connectors break off from the circuit board on the MY09 models

I had to solder mine a few weeks back after the battery connector piece actually snapped off the PCB. There's a DYI article thread for fixing this fault on here too.

It is that common supposably that when we first though we had an issue we switched to our master key and it still continued to happened so we though it was a RF coding issue so we went to Subaru and they told us that both keys had the same problem even though we never used the master key and it was stored in a safe location and never used!
