Tried this, failed. I cut the blue wire (like Riggs says, always cut the blue wire), or the fourth one in, and it does not work. Damn, I hope I didn't cut something too important!

4th one it, but was it the 4 pin's wire?

Just saw this...

Buggered if I know what I cut, everything works as it did before as far as I can tell...i.e. I still have to stop to use the SatNav or phone, I just don't have to put the handbrake on (I didn't even before I cut the wire)

Just did mine (MY12XTP) and got the same result. It seems like the GPS or speedo cause the buttons to grey out once the car starts moving. Has anyone been able to get around this?

Sorry to bring up an old thread...ive searched everywhere for an answer but no luck.

I've cut the 4th wire (purple blue) on my MY11 XT but now my sat nav is all over the place...can't pinpoint position anymore and I seem to have lost AUX...

Anyone else figured this out?

Re-connect wire and if it works, leave it. You've cut the wrong wire.

Hey Guys,

Did this today and it worked Fine.
I had to turn the plug that came out up-side-down, then it is the wire 4 holes in the the right (2nd actual Wire). When the plug comes out you need to make sure the "Release Clip" is facing up, the opposite way it comes out. In the Pictures provided you can see the plug has been turned up-side-down and the Clip is at the top in the pictures.

This was right for my car anyway.

Thanks!!!

Ok, so gave this a shot while i was setting up the DIY bluetooth (which worked a treat).
My wiring harness looks like the attached pic

So nothing like the one in the original post.
Any ideas? Obviously don't want to be cutting the wrong cable.
I got a MY09 XTP

Cheers guys

I just did this on my MY09 Forester XTP and it worked perfectly! However mine seems to let me do absolutely everything while driving.
I had the different coloring as well, and it was indeed the purple wire (4th position) that was the one I needed to cut and earth.

Thanks for the guide! Stay tuned for my thread about crashing my car while not paying attention to the road!
