Post subject:  SG9 factory subwoofer not working

So, I installed a new set of front speakers yesterday. But before that, I gave my sound system a quick check and it turns out my sub isn't working. I don't think it has ever worked, mind you. I haven't opened up the rear panels yet, so I didn't do any tests. But is this a common thing? And is there a common solution? I'm not really in the market for a new amp and a massive sub, so if I could get this one working again, it would be awesome. Currently I have big sound up front, a bit of sound from the rear speakers, and dead silence from the boot. And that just sucks.

Are you using an aftermarket head unit? If so, you it might not be wired up to trigger the sub.

Yeah I am. I do remember having one or two wires I had to terminate because the HU didn't have space for them in the plug. That would probably be the Amp/sub wires then. My headunit does have RCA outputs in addition to the normal plug.

I believe the sub needs a power trigger, like the antenna.

Have a look at this topic. :ok:

big sound up front = you've upgraded the fronts?
Then forget about the factory sub . It's really just a 6x9 speaker not even a real sub.
Upgrade to an 8" or even shallow 10" sub which will fit in the factory location.
There are DIY threads about this.

That's probably best. Thanks for the info.

The 5th speaker in the back of the SG works like any other speaker in a car system. It needs its own channel coming out of the HU to drive it.

The OEM HU has a 5th channel to drive it. But aftermarket HU only have 4. So the 5th speaker will usually never be wired up to work with an aftermarket HU install. Infact it cannot be wired unless you specifically add an additional amp to drive it, in which case you may aswell use it to drive an actual sub bass speaker.
