Hey All
My missus has scratched the side of the car above the rear wheel arch pretty bad whilst parking (against a concrete pillar  ). Don't have a pic yet, but it's quite deep and certainly won't "buff out". It's been a few months now that I've left it like that, but I'm getting sick of looking ghetto so starting to think about fixing it.

Haven't got a quote yet, but I expect they'll need to respray a significant portion of the rear.. maybe even the entire side of the car.

So I thought perhaps I should just respray the entire car ... in a different colour. Always wanted WR Blue (mine is the other blue, not sure of the name - pic of the car below).

Never had any painting done, so some questions:
- Is it worth doing inside the doors, etc?
- If so, what's involved - is it a major job? How do they do it - I'm assuming they don't need to gut the interior of the car for this?
- I definitely don't want to take the engine out - will they be able to do 'as much as possible' around the engine in the engine bay without taking it out?
- How much for all this? I don't really want to go over 3-3.5k.
- Any recommended places in Sydney to get this done?
- Am I crazy for wanting to do this? :)

Your colour looks like Newport Blue.

If you don't take the engine out or do the door jams, it will not look right.

For a colour change, the whole car should be striped.

Why don't you take the opportunity to fix it up, sell it and upgrade to a WR blue SEdition.

If you are just wanting the scratch and possible dent fixed a panel shop would do the quarter/can't rail and possibly rear door depending on size of repair needed.

As for the colour change questions.
-personally if I was changin colour yes I would do inside doors otherwise it looks half job
- doors would need to come off. Windows out. But seats/ dash and carpet would more than likely stay in.
-usually just inner guards and under bonnet maybe radiator support.
-if going through a shop a color change can range from $7k-$12k. If not more pending how far and much you want done.
- any panel shop can do it realistically. Can take anywhere from 3 weeks-month or 2 pending how busy and what exactly you want done
-never crazy. Thinkin the same thing for mine.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't really want to go through the hassle of selling, buying another. Just had a look on carsales, average S-Edition price is around 30k. Considering I don't really need anything from the S-edition other than the colour (already have a TBE, VF52 and a tune coming up; and don't really care about the different box it has), it doesn't sound like it wouldn't make a lot of sense financially...

7k-12k sounds huge. I might just have to ring around and find out. Understand that anyone can do it; just after a recommendation, i.e. someone proven to do a good and a well-priced job :)

Edit: so does the engine normally have to come out for a colour change? Given my colour is also a type of 'blue', will it be 'close enough' / not really noticeable in certain hard-to-see places in the engine bay? Or is that wishful thinking :)

Depends how picky you are about the inside door colour.
I have a grey closed door job over black. So black door jams. And it doesn't bother me to much.

With both colours being blue it may now stand out to much.

Could just do this for the engine bay?
https://youtu.be/W0r9WPw-Ov8?t=2m49s

The inner guards could just stay a slightly different shade of blue.. Most will prob not notice.

Thinking about the door jambs, I'm leaning towards doing those, as they'll be a little more visible.

The thing I'll want to get right is the colour... :)

What are the different versions of 'WR Blue' out there?

Initially I thought I'd just paint it in the WR Blue that the S-Edition comes in, i.e. I believe it's the "02C" as listed here:
http://www.expresspaint.com/automotivet ... dModel=253

Then found a few other options, eg:

Apparently there's a "new" WR Blue from 2015 onwards, colour code "K7X" on this chart:
http://www.expresspaint.com/automotivet ... dModel=253

Also appears to be known as "07X" - differences discussed at length here:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1797577

And then there's also "Rally Blue Pearl" or "Sonic Blue" as it's also known that supposedly the 22B came in, "74F" on this chart:
http://www.expresspaint.com/automotivet ... dModel=254

Thoughts? :)

I thought (perhaps incorrectly) that wraps mostly produce matte colours. Is it possible to achieve a factory looking WR Blue with a wrap?
