Hi guys , I have a 2005 facelift foz sti and the steering feels horribly light .. ..I have changed everything including the 3 bushes, tyres ,track rods , bottom ball joints and alignment . I’m thinking of a wrx rack to replace the fsti item ..anybody know which one will feel better more responsive and possibly heavier ? The fsti uses the later rack with 3 bushes
Thanks !

The rack part number ending in FE550. Thats the 06-07 JDM Spec C quick rack. And is the one get if you have the 1x saddle, 2x bolt hole style of mounting.

If you have the older 2x saddle mounting, then you want the rack with a part number ending in FE440.

Ive done the FE550 into my MY05 XT, but i had to swap crossmembers aswell.

The hawkeye wrx rack seems abundant ..even if I fit one of those it must feel better than this thing

Yes. Any wrx or sti rack is better than a forester rack. Although i dont know how the Forester STI rack compares.

FWIW - the Spec C rack in my old 06 STi was MEGA compared to the stock STi rack. It might be a bit too quick in a Forester, but i haven't driven an 05 Foz to know. It was incredibly tight in the STi - my favourite mod on that car.

i run a fe440 sti rack. 2.2 turn s from lock to lock. feels very nice to drive. its a straight drop in for the late sg xt. no cross member swap needed. i would assume that the cross members are the same (keeping the 2inch body spacer built in) but there are afew members on here who have done complete conversions with great doccumentiaon and attention to detail. you might find the info regarding weather the sti and xt forester cross members are different or not and then just go with the fe440 if they are the same

Fe440 is getting hard to find, they're all 18+ years old at this point, and only came on the highest spec STi. I fitted an fe550 with 05sti front crossmember because that was cheaper to get locally than a fe440, plus the 05 crossmember is significantly more braced than earlier versions. Direct bolt up to GC/SF/GD/SG.

Bullsh1t.

FE440 is LESS than 18 yrs old. They were fitted between 2000/1 and 2004. And they are still very very common in japan auctions. They is always around 4 or 5 on yahoo. And has been for the past 7 odd years ive been watching the auctions. FE550 is slightly rarer than FE440 because they were only fitted to the hawkeye models (2005/6-2007) which were run for fewer years. And also because they are slightly newer, arent being broken down for parts quite as much as the earlier ones are currently. (Although this is changing as time progress.)

A quick 2 min search of yahoo this morning has turned up these 6 FE440 results.

https://yahoo.importmonster.com.au/view ... %20STI%20C

https://yahoo.importmonster.com.au/view ... %20STI%20C

https://yahoo.importmonster.com.au/view ... 20D%20SALE

https://yahoo.importmonster.com.au/view ... 0WRX%20STI

https://yahoo.importmonster.com.au/view ... %20STI%20C

https://yahoo.importmonster.com.au/view ... %20STI%20D

But I do agree that the FE550 is the one to get. Because as you say, the crossmember that goes with it is significantly better design than the standard Subaru item. And this is exactly why I did the FE550 in my car. I think if anyone is going to the effort of swapping a steering rack, then the added difficulty of doing the better crossmember is a no brainer. Not only is the crossmember alot more rigid. The way the steering rack mounts to it is also alot better designed.
