Probably not helped by me not staying on top of "checking and tightening" with the necessary rigor.

You shouldnt have to check they are tight. They should be done up tight, and stay done up tight. And you shouldnt have to worry about over tightening the fastener and stripping it, because its a low grade chincy PoS.

Do you check every other nut in the suspension periodically for correct tightness?

The OEM nuts and bolts Subaru use will go an entire lifetime without coming un-done. The reason is because Subaru dont use Ny-lock nuts for anything critical like suspension. Infact if you look at the nuts they use for the strut-knuckle connection, or lateral link-subframe connection, or lateral link-knuckle connection or practically any other important fastener in the suspension system, you will find they use cone-lock type locking nuts. (Or castle nuts with split pins in the case of tie rod ends, or peened over nuts for the driveshafts.) And at worst they will use a serrated flange nut. The point is they dont trust ny-locks for any of the big suspension/driveline joints.

Dont get me wrong, i think ny-locks have a place, but it certainly isnt on the end of a swaybar link.

Apology, I did not read in detail.......

I have had a similar issue, where they came loose, the additional friction meant it needed replacing.
