I don't think so. Were the rear shocks apart or were they a complete unit that you simply removed & put back on?

The lower arm needs to be dropped and I removed the swaybar links to allow enough room to remove/install my rear shocks. Have you checked if the swaybar link is on the right way? Could be knocking around. Other than that, provided everything is tight and installed correctly, could have a worn shock but I'm not sure what a shagged SLS shock sounds like. I threw mine in the bin recently as I've replaced with Cusco struts/pedders springs.

Thanks for the reply James,
The SLS were they a complete unit that you simply removed & put back on.

Which end of the lower arm needs to be dropped, outboard or inboard?

I used a siccor jack to extend the suspension fullly.

Where did you get your Cusco struts/pedders springs? Price?

Cheers Al

I dropped the lower arms on the outboard side and let them hang from the inner bolt. The rear swaybar link needed to be unbolted as well and with both of those out of the way, you're free to raise/lower the lower arm to fit the strut assembly.

The Cusco struts I got from CarModsAustralia for $1k, the Pedders Sportsryder springs were about $360 or so from memory. Tried to fit them myself but needed to stuff around with multiple top hats and didn't have the right bump stops. Ended up getting them fitted + alignment and mixing parts between the STi/stock bits (needed my old Whiteline top hats, STi bump stops) for approx $600 at Fulcrum.

I definitely rate the Cusco/Pedders combo - it feels tight but not as firm as the STi suspension. The other option would be KYB struts with Tein or Pedders springs. The Cusco units appear to be made by KYB anyway as they are stamped with KYB, but they have rebound adjustment as an additional bonus.
