Coolant temp sensor might be the problem if you are having to wait for the motor to cool.
Otherwise, find some second hand crank and cam sensors and swap for a test.
Both occassions the car was driven then rested for around 3 hours, then it will not start up, then wait another 3 hours then it will fire up.

Got a factory immobiliser ? , is the battery in the key all good

Factory I believe, but the thing is my central locking hasnt worked for over a year and Ive been using my spare key which that isnt a key fob, and it always started ok.

Ah ok , long shot but I remember getting stuck in my old gt when the key battery went flat ... coulda been an aftermarket one though now I think of it...

Update: It happened again today and finally the ECU pulled up the P0335 Crankshaft position sensor error!
Did an ECU reset to clear the codes and it started up again.

Thanks for everyones help, I'll be ordering a new one tomorrow.
