Hi all,

Anyone had this issue in their SG forester? The shifter stay (pretty sure that's what it's called) snapped at the front bushing end.

What's the best way to replace it? Wreckers?

Looks like you can't order the single part in its own. Need to buy the full shifter assembly if new.

Thanks

Which piece are you talking about?
The lower gold rod?

Correct. The service manual calls it the 'stay'.

How the hell did you manage that??

No I don't think you can buy it separate, but you might be able to rip it off a wrecked car or someone parting out

Yeh I had mine snap a fair while back , same place from memory - Probably done around 250/260 thou when it broke so I'm guessing just gets fatigued ...
Luckily a local member had one ...
Lucky also I wasn't that far from home when it snapped and I got home in 3rd gear

Yep, that's exactly what happened to mine. Broke at the same spot

Maybe running a short shifter and poly bushes puts more strain on it?

Will try hitting up a wrecker for a replacement. Would this be the same part on other Subarus or forester SG specific?

Yeh I wondered about the short shifter , I'm back on the standard now .
I'd guess maybe the Rex 5mt would also fit but am not sure , might pay to bring your broken one along if you can just to a/ b them , think there maybe a difference in the shifter sockets on some also .

The rear rubber block is different from impreza to forester chassis.

So I managed to find a 5mt Impreza at my local wreckers so I took the stay off that. I probably could have hunted elsewhere for a forester one but this most the most convenient wrecker for me yesterday. Brought it home and removed the one from my foz. Appears they do differ slightly.

Photos below show the foz one with yellow markings, and the new Impreza one with white markings. No pics of the Impreza one installed unfortunately.

I still managed to fit it though. Nothing appears to be knocking and gears are shifting as they used to.
