Something that Falcons are notorious for, but I didn't know Subies did it at all frequently. Split top tanks yes, but not ATF milkshake. Have I missed something?

I have no Subaru-specific data on that. Would be interesting to hear how common it is though.

I haven't changed my wife's stock radiator/ATF cooler setup in panic over the potential issue - which is either a considered risk assessment or laziness on my part

I think i might play it safe and go with the Golpher and the AFT cooler.
Im hoping for a replacement set and forget solution so dont want to have to be monitoring the temps and have to upgrade the AFT cooler later on down the track.
Considering it came from the factory with the lower tank in the radiator it cant be the worst solution (understand still not perfect though)

Good pickup on the Skid Factory Yowie, i was going to watch that on my trip home anyway - too hard to see what size it would have been as they have quite a few different models but it did look bigger than the one that i have.

Now to get my hands on a Gopher and list the Mishimoto for sale (brand new, fitted but hasnt had a drop of coolant)

Hey, just curious on how do you rate the golpher radiator? Any issues at all?

Their is nothing wrong with the cooling from the standard gen radiator/trans cooler. I don't mean to offend anyone but why would you want to change the standard setup?? Are you planning to race on the track. I had my 5eat valve body changed/upgraded as well as the radiator changed for a new gen one. The trans guy who had 20 years experience with track/drag cars said to me their was no benefit changing to a aluminum radiator and separate trans cooler for the 5eat as the factory equipment was more than adequate to handle track days and a good hard flogging. The weakest part of the 5eat trans is the valve body, i replaced mine with a IPT F1 valve body changeover unit and got it tuned. Shifts almost instantly with no delay. Even with a hammering on the dyno tuning the trans it didn't even get hot.

Ive had my radiator split on my previously and an keen for it to not happen again. I'm just buying the radiator for when my current one splits so can swap it over right away. Not planning to track the car but might be better buying a full metal rad.

No issues at all with the golpher.
Since I had the mishimoto and golpher side by side I actually think the welds on the golpher were better.

Check my last post in signature for some photos

That sounds quite promising.
Even with the transmission tuned it is far from quick.

What sort of money did it cost to get it upgraded?

Berjo, hang around a little longer and you’ll find why so many people go aluminium once the plastic becomes brittle and cracks.
Its not a case of if, but when.
I bought a aluminium radiator as insurance, nothing else.

Did you know, If you purchase a Genuine tow package from Subaru, it includes an additional transmission cooler. Why? Because Subaru don’t believe the radiator cooler provides enough cooling..

Always a good idea to get another opinion from a trans specialist :dontknow:

Concur with Tobyo, I have read a lot about the stock splitting. Not so bad, EXCEPT it also cools the turbo, so overheating is ver ver bad in an XT........

Additionally, the Mishimoto is a larger capacity with extra cores, so better cooling ability !

Mishimoto offer two or three cores. I just went with the two core as the three core makes fitment rather tight.
