Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has fitted a 2016 wrx sti exhaust to the forester? I have an s-edition 2012 forester. The local mechanic has a 2016 wrx sti exhaust there. ANybody had any experience? Such as noise/drone/fitment issues?

Thanks and regards

Daniel

Cat-back exhaust off the STi should fit. MY11+ will bolt straight up but the rear mufflers will need some trimming of the rear bumper plastic to avoid rubbing.

It will add drone. Some people put steel wool into the mufflers to reduce it.

Thanks guys,

How bad is the drone? Im trying to keep the stealthness of the car, I had a nvidia q300 turbo back and hated every minute of the sound lol, hence why I got rid of it.

Hi Daniel,

I've just recently fitted a used Q300 turbo back and it was droning like a mofo until I patched the leaks in the flanges with liquid gasket. I've also added CLD tiles to the tailgate over the weekend and further reduces the droning. It sounds a lot tighter but not raspy and loving it now. I have plans to quieten the car with MLV so hopefully that will do more magic. Not sure this info helps but it's my experience

Do you rate the CLD tiles? I was about to get some Dynamat to put in the boot and tailgate of my SH to remove some of the bassy/boomy drone from the 2011 WRX exhaust I fitted over the weekend but these seem like a decent alternative. Hard to estimate but on a scale of 1-10, how effective were the tiles and how many did you use on the tailgate?

I'd say it's around 4 or 3, not much but that last bit made it so much better. I had the boot floor matted few years ago but doing the tailgate really helped. I suspect doing the roof panel will help even more but I'm not ready to remove the roof liner yet. I'd say it's worth doing because it really muffled crashing noise from potholes to thuds. And when you close the car doors, it sounds just like a Golf

It was 13 of 10x10cm tiles for the tailgate but that was a bit too much, I have small hands so I could reach deep inside the panel. I used carbuilders deadener, so much cheaper than Dynamat.

Might want to re-check for exhaust leaks again, I can't believe my Q300 with brand new multilayer gasket wasn't sealing properly.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably look at doing both front doors, tailgate and boot so dynamat may still be the better option for me with 9 sheets in the pack. Pretty expensive stuff really, hopefully it does the trick.

I had no issues with my WRX mufflers. The entire system was pretty much brand new so I reused the gaskets that came with them as they looked to be in great shape compared to the ones on the Forester mufflers which were deteriorating. So far so good.
