So the bushes on the front LCAs were gone and my local mechanic just went ahead and replaced the entire arm on both sides with some aftermarket arm that had the bushes completely disintegrate after 100ks (not 100 thousand, just 100!)

Took the car to my usual mechanic now and he wasn’t impressed. Reckons the bushes were tightened to their final torque while the car was still up, which overtightented them when it was lowered.

Anyway, looking into upgrade options for the entire arm now - the aftermarket ones I have are no good.

Are there any alloy arms that fit the SH9 Foz? I used to have a GDB STI - I assume those arms don’t fit?

Superpro do some lower arms - Yowie has them on his I believe. I'm not sure on the GDB STI arms but from memory they do bolt up, not sure if anything else needs to be changed.

See that page for pics and light comments about the Superpro alloy lower control arms.

Let me know if you have further questions about them.

Thanks - I assume the Superpro arms increase NVH? The brief from the missus is there shall be no increase in NVH whatsoever. So if there’s an option of an alloy arm w stock OEM bushes, that’d be perfect.

There was more NVH after the load of Superpro products went in (see the full scope of the job on those build thread pages).

I couldn't reliably tell you if it was from "just poly bushes" or "just the alloy lower control arm" (or "how much from the other non-LCA work" for that matter).

However, in my view the additional caster almost certainly is part of the harder steering and "steering wheel fighting the driver" phenomenon.

More caster may give the better handling AND transmit more thumps through the chassis as two sides to the same coin (eg bumps transmitted through a more horizontal vector), but that is some pretty loose speculation on my part.

As such, if your missus can handle (or wouldn't notice) a more agro steering wheel, you probably have some research to do on the topic of whether caster alone (eg with OEM rubber bushes) tends to add to NVH.

The Superpro alloy LCA (from memory) also claims to add caster via its length etc, but worth double-checking before you spend any money.

I'd be interesting to hear about what you find if you post it up.

Kind of hesitant to add either caster or poly bushes due to Foz being a family car.

So one might ask what am I looking to "upgrade" then :) well, thinking just a lighter alu arm + maybe a more responsive bush that doesn't add NVH - if there is such a thing.

Does anyone know if these "JDM GRB STI" LCAs fit at all?

This would prob be the best option if they fit.

Thank you, that sounds promising. How reliable are your sources? :) Can I go ahead and drop all that cash on these things or do I need further research/confirmation?
