So my Speedo has stopped working intermittently over the past couple of months, and has now finally stopped working at all. The Odometer has stopped ticking over as well on all 3 (main, Trip A and B) counters.

The cluster speedo seems to be working ok as i still get a cluster sweep on start up.

Has anyone had this issue, or does anyone have an idea of where the speedo sensor is on these vehicles? I'm not getting any CEL/limp mode effects so i'm assuming it's not being picked up by ABS or Transmission sensors?

Any help/advice appreciated!

Got an app like torque pro? Check to see whether you're getting speed on the app. If not its probably the VSS vehicle speed sensor.

There is no VSS on that model. Speed is derived from the ABS/VSC system, from the 4 x wheel speed sensors. It is then broadcast on the CAN-Bus network where the instrument cluster deciphers the data and uses the values to drive the gauge.

But plugging into a bluetooth interface and checking what the system is registering as its vehicle speed will still be a handy test.

Thanks lads.

Ok so can confirm that the speed readings are available from the ECU, AT, BCM and ABS modules.. i'm guessing it has to be cluster, or wiring too/from cluster then?

I would from a logical perspective look at the wiring first.
It's the cheapest option before throwing money at a new cluster.

Also (logic) would be if the gauge sweep is an internal "thing" that the cluster does, that at least confirms that the gauge motors and mechanisms are good.
If the speedo needle was to not sweep at startup, it would (logically) suggest the gauge mechanism is Rhonda and Ketut.

Great stuff. I love Aussie-isms and rhyming slang.

Cheers Bram, I too have learned something new.

 you know what, i'd take Rhonda and Ketut at this stage.

The bastard problem is intermittent.

It was dead for like a week, but then it just sprung back to life on the weekend and worked on and off. When it is working, i notice a very slight stutter on the speedo gauge before it catches up to the fact i have accelerated. So the long and the short, when it's working - everything including the odo and and L 1/100 centre reading tick over and display.. When the speedo is dead none of that works :?
