Any idea if the MY11s were affected? I've not received any recall notice (only the sec air pump, which I deleted).

Got my letter yesterday - MY11.

I looked up in the service manual and it looks like a big job. Dash out, steering column out, centre console out.

I know a lot of people with Liberties that are reporting scratches and tool marks from getting their airbags replaced by ham fisted technicians. Seeing as you guys are reporting no dash damage, I am hoping they found an easier way to do it.

Take pictures. Lots of pictures.

Good idea , yeh not SH but the wifes Liberty copped a few marks / scratches when it was done - so yeh if your fussy with your car probably a good call .
Lucky for them the wife ain't that fussy , I would've cracked it if it was mine .

Correct. Subaru were replacing the questionable airbags with newer questionable airbags of the exact same type.

The reason is the airbags supposedly start out fine, but the potential issue is as they age, they can rust/corrode into a dangerous state, and this is what the problem is. So Subaru are systematically replacing the airbags from the older models first (as they have had longer time to potentially corrode) and working thier way through to the newer vehicles. But with one of the largest airbag manufactures in the world out of action, there was difficulting actually getting supply of replacement airbags. So the tempory solution was to fit new shelf stock of the potentially defective airbags to older affected vehicles so as to buy time for new safe airbags to be produced and distributed.

Just noticed the recall completed stickers on the drivers side for the airbag and air pump.

FYI - I got the letter, filled it in and sent it back. I then called the dealer to book it in. The dealer said I have to waited until Subaru send another letter confirming airbag availability. Once the second letter is received I can book it in.
