Having just flushed out my cooling system to fix my heating, just wondering what temps are considered normal?

I plugged in my bluetooth OBD dongle and checked the temps with the torque app on my phone - they were hovering low 90c's.

Is this normal?

Mine was at 88c when I plugged it in, but left it idling a bit to see where it would creep too, ended up about 93c then started to go back down.

Will be keeping my eye on them over the next few days just to make sure all is well.

Is your car stock Tobyo?

I've seen mine as high as 105. It's pretty much stock

I've been bugging Tremayne about this same issue.

I'm seeing the same temps, so we're not the only ones!

85-88 on highway; 88-96 traffic and towing. However, I used to see temps 3-4 degrees lower than this, before this latest round of changes to the car, hence my observations.

Today, I'm experimenting with removing the shroud around the windscreen wipers. It opens up a huge gap at the back of the engine bay. I'm hoping it reduces under-bonnet temps?!

Sort of stock.. just some minor mods which would not effect temperture. I also have two LED light bars inserted inside the sports grill, which one would think would effect the air flow, but it made zero difference.

1. Pretty mush the same here.

2. I've read that it's a high-pressure zone at the base of the widescreen (hence why a lot of cars have their cabin air intake here). It will be interesting to see how your experiment goes in practice. Perhaps attach some wool tufts to the trailing edge of the bonnet so you can see which way the air actually flows at what speeds?

Whilst I can't confess to it being 'scientific' at all, my findings today were promising.

^^^Today, after removing the windscreen wiper shroud

83 degrees C whilst cruising at 100km/hr on the motorway. Moments after exiting the motorway, I was sitting in traffic, and the temps went up to 91 deg C. Steady driving at 60km/hr and the temps drops steadily / immediately by 6-7 deg C. Air temperature 27-29 deg C today.

You've appealed to the aviator in me, with the suggestion of using tufts. I will do that!

:ok:

Stopped at the local wrecker who has 2 x SG Foresters in the yard, and nabbed a shroud to cut up. Gonna have a think about it, and see if I can place holes / vents in it to get a shroud that covers the ugly gap but allows airflow?!

:drinks:
