Hey guys,

Im just exploring my options and would like to upgrade my brakes in my MY09 forester as i really hate the stock calipers compared to feel of my brakes in my MY99 rexy.

I was just wondering if my11 brakes would bolt into a sh forester or if i should go with some older brakes of another rexy?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
Jaydee

MY11 Brakes? All the SH series have the same brakes, or did you mean an MY11 WRX which also use the same brakes?

Upgrades in order of cost:
- You can go for after market pads, rotors, and fit braided lines. The lines will help the pedal feel firmer.

- Late model Liberty GT brakes. Larger rotors, 2 piston sliding caliper, will fit behind your stock rims

- Brembos. Look nice, cost a lot for second hand ones, offer better actual performance than stock, great for street use, don't hold up as well on the track, (which is why so many Sti's have upgraded) need suitable rims.

- KiDo Racing Brake Kit. Big (ok, massive) improvement over stock, new with warranty, suitable for street or track, come with braided lines and everything needed to bolt on. You will need suitable rims.

You will notice I have not mentioned Subaru 4 pots. These are not really an up grade on the stock brakes.

They all cost money.... But what else would you be doing if you weren't planing another mod for the foz?

Hey Buddy, that for answering my question and yes i did mean to say MY11 WRX brakes haha.

surely the 4-pot wrx brakes would offer an improvement over the stock 2 piston brakes on the forester.

that combined with some dba 4000's or along those lines.

Was looking at Brembo's or something after market but didnt really want to fork out all that money just now when I should be saving that money for the house I want to build haha.

If MY11 WRX brakes can bolt on, I may just grab a set of those with braided lines and upgraded rotors?

Hopefully 4pots will fit under stock wheels to as i dont mind the stock wheels (if i ever go the brembo route or some other brakes I will then change the wheels over to, but for now i just want something slightly better than stock.)

Cheers,
Jaydee

My11 wrx brakes are two pot and exactly the same as your current calipers.
The sh has a good pad footprint so going to a pre 08 wrx 4pot caliper wont offer much of an upgrade. Also stock sh xt rims dont clear 4pots.

4pots won't fit underneath you stock wheels unfortunately. :(

As already mentioned, the late model Liberty GT brakes is quite a significant upgrade and are very capable of hard braking. I'd say they're equivalent to, if not better than, the WRX 4pots. IIRC the large rotors are only 10mm smaller than Brembos. Good thing is they will fit behind your stock rims.
Glad they came stock on my Liberty, even after a tune for approx 190kw I still don't see the urgent need for a brake upgrade anytime soon :)

Oh dam... I thought wrx's still had 4 pots on the front like the classic series..

Well guess i'll just have to look at hiding some money away from the misses and sneakily grab some new wheels and some decent new brakes.

What just a KiDo Racing Brake Kit go for these days?

they do look pretty cool haha.

Go a decent set of pads and some slotted rotors, plus a fluid upgrade, minimal cost. See how you go from there

I went the Brembo rout and there is a huge difference! However, it depends what you want to do with your car too..... Im looking at some track time since doing more mods to the car than original thought but track time on the whole will not be a very big % of my driving time.

Therefore.....

STi Brembo's = MASSIVE improvement over stock for everyday driving!

I have the 316mm Liberty GT brakes on mine and only cost me $200 for them (scored a bargain). There is a definite improvement over the stock SH brakes. Something like 30% more pad area and 20mm more rotor will do that for you...
