Hi gmacfly,
If your talking simple upgrade but in my view essential, definitely get the STi water pump with the caste impeller and 2 outlets.

Got my entire TBK & STi water pump from Wendy & Kris at http://m.risingsunsubaru.com.au/ great service and prices for genuine Subaru parts.

What is the benefit of the water pump upgrade over the Forester OEM water pump?
Is the default Forester pump renowned for failure or something?

Personally I wouldn't panic about using a genuine non STi water pump - my cars done 300 thousand without one and never had an issue , nor am I aware of any due to non STi part .
Happy to also take a look at info on why its essential on a non race car as I've not seen any ?
Stay away from cheap aftermarket ones though as for starters the pump is behind the timing belt and for the life span / trouble it could cause genuine is really not that expensive .
