Biggest shame ever, just blew the HG - Coolant froths up, bubbles into overflow and eventually spills out. Seems to be the exhaust gas (in radiator) type of leak, the oil is fine and there's no smoke.

Local mechanic misdiagnosed and instead proceeded to charge me $1000 for a new Radiator, front brake pads and an oil change (yay)...

Car otherwise in great condition (@~175,000, it's a Black 06 XT Lux), should I:

Trade as-is at a local dealer
Sell as-is with known issue (perhaps an enthusiast would like to fix it up themselves)
Fix ($3000+???WTF???)

You'll have to weigh up how much you like the car / what it owes you etc ...
I wouldn't pass it on undisclosed but that's just me ...
Yeh I paid $3600 , its a motor out job on a boxer so not cheap , got the timing belt done which cost a little more but has saved me a lot now it would've been due - and a couple of other things , arp stud kit , valve seals etc - cause no regrets and had no plans to sell , I'd had the car for a few years and apart from that its been great , bloody great actually .
It's kinda looking after it and pot luck to a degree but 300 thou still going great .
No doubt there was places that could've done it cheaper but wanted it done properly , common story is got it done cheap at dunno **** about subys etc , hgs gone again in a year or so . A subaru specialist and arp stud kit are money well spent if you plan to keep the car IMO and If you tie in a water pump and timing belt kit you can save a packet down the track

Has it overheated? If it has, I’d be pulling pistons while it’s apart to check for cracked ringlands - common on ej255s that have gotten hot
