Poking around for a my07 or 08 XT lux. Preference is manual (currently drive a manual 01 GT lux). Lotsa autos around...
What's the consensus - manual or auto and what are the pros and cons? Would like to know...

Cheers

You don't have to change gears yourself in an Auto...

:P

BS aside, if you prefer a manual then wait it out for a manual to turn up. No amount of internet-forum reasoning will make you feel better about buying an auto if that isn't what you wanted.

I test drove a 2006 auto and a 2007 manual. And while on paper the performance is very close, the manual "feels" so much quicker.

Another, more adult, thing with auto's is that if (when) the radiator pops and you need to install a mishimoto or other aftermarket unit, you're gonna battle to find an aftermarket transmission cooler to go with it.

Other than that? Some days I wish I had an auto. Especially in stop-go traffic or when driving a 4x4 route. But on other days I'm glad I chose the manual because of the difference on the butt-dyno.

... and here:
http://www.xcceleration.com/4EAT-101.htm

Finding genuine info about AUDM models is hard to get, but I believe the 2007 4EAT is equipped with the VTD / VDC system with an underwhelming VLSD rear diff, yet it's considered the 2nd best transmission set-up of all the Subaru variations (45F:55R torque split!!).

Owning an Impreza with a 5MT, I will put my neck on the chopping block, and say, that the 5MT with no LSDs front or rear, are actually 2WD cars (left-hand side drive, or right-hand side drive, depending on where the slip occurs?).

Food for thought.
