Hi all, I suspect my thermostat is stuck and would like to prove it, I have a new Subaru one and have put them both in boiling water but can’t see any movement in either, I’m unsure what I’m looking for and at what temp they should open, I thought it would be obvious but maybe my water had cooled to quick, any kind advice appreciated.
Cheers
S

I think they open around 80-85 from memory. You should be able to simulate this by putting it in boiling water.

If you just dunked it into a cup of previously boiled water, then it may not be hot enough, as by the time you put water into a mug, then add the T-stat, the water would have dissipated some heat into the mug, and into the Tstat, bringing the average temp down. Try it on a saucepan on the stove.

What you are looking for is the valve to open up.

Mcstevo as Bram says,

but Subaru advises 'don't let the T Stat settle on the base of the pot. Suspend it during the heating up and if you have temp probe check when it opens.

Done this with success.

Cheers Al

The specifications in the Subaru service manual; the valve should begin to open at 76 to 80 C. Valve should be fully open at 91C. The minimum valve lift at fully open is 9mm.
