G'day all, you've been a great help so far so here's my next issue to deal with. Once I've been on boost, and have the interior fan on venting from outside, the vehicle fills with the smell of burning oil. I've seen the turbo visibly smoking, it seems to be internal, and can not find another source of oil leaking onto any exhaust components.

Is this a common issue, and if so where would I source a new turbo?

Sounds like what mine used to do. Most common issue would be leaky head cover gasket or Valley seal at the back of the drivers side head onto the up pipe heat shield. Have a real good look with a torch. The smoke usually only becomes visible once it's floated up past the turbo and hits some daylight, which is why it generally looks like your turbo is cooking.

If it is turbo related, TD04's pop up on here fairly often for around $150. Or upgrade to VF series while you're at it.

Yep, oil seal's gone in the turbo. Bin it.

Check drivers side front cv's, might be a fkd cv boot which is flicking grease onto the exhaust.

Just went through rwc, so boots are good. I can't see any oil leaking from the rocker cover... I'll have it on a hoist on Wednesday so I'll be able to have a better look, but it just "feels" like the turbo it's self is cactus...

A smell inside is more indicative of the leaks the other guys have mentioned, rather than a dead turbo (check my build thread: there's a small video of my smoking TD04 on there). A dead turbo will burn coolant / oil through the exhaust and out the rear, not into the cabin.

Yea, I thought it was a leak at first too Craig as it was at its worst on a very cold morning which means that the tolerances would have contracted through the night allowing more fluid to leak. But no signs of where from.

Hell, I'm doing plugs etc, might as well just do the rocker cover gaskets while I'm at it.

I've noticed a burning oil smell and a small amount of smoke coming from the scoop. Recently had the turbo upgraded too so I was worried that it was that! I had serviced and told them about it. They said it's the rocker cover gaskets.
