It's a bit hard to make a universal mounting system that will work well with different cars and mounting positions.

One thing i suggested to Russ before he left WA was to make the cans a universal type thing. But then make application specific brakets. That way he is only making one can design and simply has a few various mounting bracket systems to suit the common models.

Russ

FYI I fitted the catch can to my SH this weekend (head breathers only with unnecessary pipes blocked off, crank case vent will be handled by a separate small can somewhere on the passenger side firewall).

Great mounting position & bracket next to the radiator. Really well thought-through.

I managed to run the two hoses very neatly. The factory engine cover sits properly with no modification required and a non-trainspotter would be challenged to spot the non-standard hoses.

[FYI the messy/squashed MAF hose situation is nothing to do with the catch can setup.]

Image

Apart from a Perrin turbo intake and a Grimmspeed 3-port my the car is stock in that area (including stock airbox & snorkel). The aftermarket intake was probably essential for the neat result because the Perrin spigots can be rotated around.

Image

Because the SH uses a 16mm (5/8") diameter hose on the crank case vent i ended up using the sole 16mm hole in the catch can as an "in" hole. No harm in the oily gasses hitting some steel wool when they first enter the can. FYI i used a brass 16mm right angle piece (shown) to bring the oily air to the can then a 12.7mm (12") pipe vertically straight back out to the turbo inlet pipe.

Image

If you end up going ahead with a redesign or different configurations perhaps it's worth making a true 16mm "in" side, for the SH models at least.

More generally; if the "separated compartments / 4-port" thing ends up being too hard for the next iteration I think there is a lot of merit in a simplified can with exactly the same dimensions and "next to radiator" bracket. Multiple options for ins & outs may still be a good thing depending on what different Subarus have and whether the user wants to use it for heads or crank case.

Anyway; cheers for a great bit of gear.
