Hi All,

I am new here and have come in search of some advice.
I have a 2002 Limited done 140ks and I am the second owner of just past 7 months.

My issues:

1. Rain / parked facing up the hill outside GFs house / a pool of water gathers in rear passenger foot well (well and water how ironic).
Cannot work out how this might be happening. The only evidence I have seen is a drop of water on the pillar trim near the base. Carpet is only wet from the pooling and it seems back up towards the base of the pillar. Short of sitting in the car with the sprinkler going I cannot work out where the water is coming in.
Anyone experienced a similar problem or have any ideas how to find the point of water entry?

2. Sunroof - everything has been well looked after with this car and was in great working order. A few weeks ago the sunroof decided it would only open 100 mm before stopping (fortunately it closes) one side of the roof mechanism is not dropping down therefore stopping the full opening. Went to a Subaru dealership and the 'man who's seen it all' said, don't open it and if you want it repaired we are talking thousands as it needs a whole cassette yada yada. I thought not worth fixing at that price, it is closed so i'll pretend I don't have a sunroof. Point is I am sure it can be fixed, can someone refer me somewhere in Brisbane area or tell me what they think is going on. I have watched YouTube repairs though still don't know exactly what the issue is with mine. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thank you,
Run Forest - coz right now my Subie is like a box of chocolates

The water leak could be coming from the sunroof.

The sunroof has a gutter of sorts in the hoodlining with drain hoses that channel any water to exit inside the inner gaurd liners just behind the front wheels.
If the drain hoses from the sunroof get blocked (usually by leaves, dirt and general debris built up behind the guard liners) water will backup and leak into the cabin. You can peel the gaurd liners back and check for blockages.

Mine leaked onto the front seats when blocked and was worse when parked on a incline.

Parking up hill might cause any water that is leaking through the sunroof to drop in the rear footwell. :dontknow:

That makes sense and I was looking at those drain holes before the sunroof decided to stop working.
I will be on to that tomorrow.
Thank you @ 99STi

Pulled off inner guard and pipe was not blocked at bottom end; plenty of good compost soil in there all the same. Hosed out pushed some water up the drain pipe. Probably need a 2 meter pipe cleaner to push up there to really do it justice.

Pity sunroof is not opening so I can attack from the top.

Thanks again.

Ok, back to the drawing board then.

At least you lightened the car by removing unwanted compost!

If the drain hoses flow free then I don't know what the issue is, if the sunroof has a small leak they should be able to drain the water away before it spills into the cabin area. :dontknow:

Check the rubber bit that the cables go through from the rear hatch to the body. Make sure its seating properly, and not ripped etc.
