Do you end up with the same or different compression ratio with the STI block?

Also, more generally, cheers for posting details of this bottom-end-swap as you go. Obviously it's a bit of a sh!t sandwich to go through it all, but it's something that could happen to any of us so the information is very useful.

Honestly not sure, but next convo with the mech/tuner I'll ask.
I've really let go of the reins and let him go for it.

EDIT: Just been told compression will be the same as the standard Foz block

They aren't mucking around by the look of it

It will be interesting to see what the recommendations are for break-in procedure (eg full-boost tune or some kind of "break-in tune" to begin with), subsequent break-in driving period, any interesting initial oil then first change interval.

[EDIT - like this "running in oil" https://www.penriteoil.com.au/applicati ... 40-mineral ]

At least you aren't breaking in the cams at the same time.

The guys have done a few engine swaps and rebuilds recently, so should have a few tricks up their sleeves to make the process more efficient as well.

Yeah I've been wondering the same thing about the break-in process for this. I'm sure I'll be asking a few questions come pick up day.

I was booked in for a track day this Sunday at the new Luddenham Raceway, but that is now on the backburner for another day. I was a little disappointed, but now I am a happy man knowing that there is some STi goodness under bonnet!

Didn't muck around with the rebuild! Keen to see the results. Will you be getting a "workable" tune while the motor is being run in, then another tune once it's all settled? Or will the tune be the first and final?

They sure didn't muck around, sure earned their money that's for sure :)
Chatting with the mech we are going to do a first and final with any changes needed as they arise.
Will just not push it too much to run it in. Still load it up but not be too harsh on the go fast pedal.
