Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. After spending a solid couple of years building up The Nugget and developing a decent Forester addiction, made the decision to "invest" in a genuine SG9 STi, and so begins the next chapter...

Previous seller bought it in NZ where import laws are much more liberal, then brought it to Australia as a personal import in 2013. Since landing it's had about 30k put on the clock, currently sitting just over the 100k mark.

After debating it for a while (was surprised by the lack of interest), ended up having it sent down to Melbourne from Sydney and here we are.

As it stands, pretty much stock as it could be. Previous owner installed a front strut brace and upgraded the RSB. Otherwise it's pretty much factory.

The early SG is probably my favourite Forester shape. I love the aggressive front end and I think Subaru have balanced the whole car out well. Having said that, I'm biased toward the second gen SFs for obvious reasons.

I don't plan on doing a whole lot to it. I really just want to restore it to its factory glory, and maybe a few minor performance upgrades. Bumpers are a bit loose, there's some paintwork that needs a bit of TLC, also some minor rust etc. Given the low mileage, the interior is is excellent condition aside from standard black console surface which is changing state and getting everywhere.

As for the SF, its fate is not yet decided [ EDIT: Gonna keep it... ]. In the meantime I'll just enjoy having both

That looks excellent.

I also really like the factory SG look. In my opinion there is a bit of a boxy r34 Skyline / truck look to the front end & headlights that looks really aggressive.

Thanks guys.

Been driving it around a bit today getting a feel for how it runs - already I'm beginning to plan things out... I've been spoilt by the SF in terms of performance, so it'll be interesting to see what I can get out of it. Poor, poor wallet.

That's the one. Seller said that he had a few enquiries - most of which were quashed on account of "the wife wouldn't allow it". Apparently nobody actually went out to see it - which surprised me too. Given we have no local automotive industry these days, it's only a matter of time before import legislation changes. It's only real purpose was to protect the Australian industry IMO. Perhaps they'll suddenly become accessible, we can only hope...
