So it's about time I went back to owning a forester....

Been wanting to build a Forester up for the last year or so.... So I started the hunt to find the perfect XT for a build. After scrolling through gumtree, carsales etc I found this gem advertised with 'needs attention' in the advert, meaning the engine had some sort of tick/knocking sound....

After looking at videos sent to me from the owner I was convinced it had a big end bearing knock... Knowing that I was going to build the engine it didn't really fuss me what condition it was in. Anyway made a very very low ball offer and the owner didn't hesitate to take it

I made the trip from Sydney to Melbourne with a trailer ready to drag it home the same day. After a visual inspection of the vehicle I knew it wasn't the bottom end making the ticking/knocking as first thought (when you hear a big end bearing let go you never get the sound out of your head haha). Anyway I paid the guy and left Melbourne for 10 hours back to Sydney. (Was cheaper to tow the trailer down and bring it back than to get one one way)

After further inspection the dump pipe bolts were loose causing a constant knocking sound from the back of the engine bay, torqued them back up and the tick was gone... Happy days

The aim for this build is a fast street car that looks like a factory Forester but will put a Clubsport back in its place with ease haha

The shopping list will end up looking something like this:
-Build 2.5L
-Head/cam work
-6 speed (114.3 hubs, r180 etc)
-Brembos
-Possibly twist mount, depends on what turbo I go with
-External gate
-E85 (Possibly flex sensor if it will work with stock ECU)
-Stock Ecu with speed density, launch control, FFS etc
-Handling (Swaybars, end links, 04 STi shocks/springs)

List will continue....

I'm gonna get some popcorn, so I can subscribe and watch this build.

Very funny score, regarding the knocking noise.

Been a bit busy the last couple of weeks but have had some slow progress,

Engine is out and is starting to be stripped down to the bare short block. Anyone know of any reputable engine builders in NSW that can just build a short block for me?

Anyway here's a couple of progress pics:

The block definitely needs a clean that's for sure, found that that there is RVT silicone gasket sealer on everything, which is a bit worrying haha

Cant wait to get the heads off to see what condition they're in, hopefully they won't need much to get them back to perfect

Slowly pulling the engine down still work has been pretty hectic lately but that hasn't stopped me sourcing goodies,

Managed to acquire:
- 3" MRT Dump
- 3" Catback to suit
- PW Top mount
- DW300 fuel pump
- Phenolic spacers
- 3" Turbo inlet

On order:
- Gasket Kit
- Timing belt
- Headstuds
- TGV deletes

Other things to source:
- 4 pot fronts
- Suspension
- 6 speed package
- injectors

Still on the hunt for 1000cc side feed injectors, tossing up whether to go Injector Dynamics or Deatschwerks.... Opinions anyone?

Decided I'm going to make the intake/airbox also

Few more weeks until the engine is stripped and is sent off to have some goodies installed. In that time I'll be sourcing/installing a 6 speed, if anyone knows of anyone selling up just send me a PM

Also have a dilemma....

GTX3071 or GTX3076?

Will the GTX3071 get me to 270-280awkw under 25psi?

Either will make that power easily enough. I currently have a gtx3076r, but came from a dom 2.5 previously, (which is kinda like a stock location billet wheel version of a gt3071r). After having driven both, I reckon both are a good match for a 2.5L. But a 3076 is probs better.

If your doing headwork / big cams and are building the engine to go over 25pound, then you should consider something bigger.

Update:

collected a few more parts:
- Built EJ257 short block with built heads. Short block has JE pistons, Manley Rods, ARP studs, ACL bearings etc. The heads are built and have been fully ported and have 272 Cosworth cams with springs, valves etc
- 2004 JDM STi 6 speed gearbox
- 2003 JDM STi Spec C 1.5 way plated rear diff
- GTX3076r

The list of things are getting less and less... Just need the time to throw it all together.

Anyonne in Sydney recommend a place for machine work, want to deck the heads before I slap them on the short block

Pics coming soon
