I gotta admit I checked it wasn't a reverse thread, but no luck. Self doubt started creeping in!

Basically, it's a fairly long bolt, and the threaded part sinks pretty deep into the nose of the eccentric shaft. Then, most likely someone has used copious amounts of red loctite or equivalent on it, and my little propane torch won't get it hot deep enough to melt it.

So, Oxy/Ace till it's glowing cherry red, then rattle that sucker off. It's a common issue. I'm just not equipped with the right heat source at the moment, and we really were just hoping the propane torch would be enough. :dontknow: My other issue is that my crappy compressor can only run the gun at full power for no more than 10 seconds.

I just saw a great tool at work the other day for getting stuck nuts and bolts out, and also heating bearings and other press fit parts etc for easy on/off.

Its an induction coil heater made specifically for things like that. Simply put the nut or bolt or whatever you want in the coil, squeeze the trigger and within a few seconds its glowing red. Way quicker than an oxy, and very easy to evenly heat a part or specifically target a part. Very impressive tool.

Man, that's awesome! Just watched some YouTube vids on them.

I ended up getting the bolt out on the weekend. Just to reveal the motor is in worse shape than I had hoped. Quite a bit of money in new parts required, so weighing up the options at the moment.

Very slowly getting a list together and starting to tick things off it...

First piece has arrived. I'll be having to buy another Process West top mount, so need an STI scoop to fit the splitter. Scoop arrived yesterday. Gotta paint it black!

And have a new sticker to rock somewhere. Thanks Bram.

Man, it's depressing coming back to this thread... Show's how lazy I am.

I haven't done anything at all to the Foz except use it to store parts. So practical!! It's currently filled with RX8 interior parts. Internal engine parts should be off to a rotary specialist in a few weeks to get the whole rotating assembly (all 5 bits!) balanced.

I ended up installing a Megasquirt ECU in the MX5 and self tuning it for E85. Finished a couple days before a trackday. Ran at Wakefield and had fun, but decided I don't really like the MX5 so it has to go. Will return it to stock soon (not much effort), and sell it on.

Full steam ahead on the RX8 currently... It will be a significantly better track hack than the MX5.

Once the MX5 is gone, I'll just sink all the proceeds into finally getting the Foz back on the road. Will need to source a Liberty 6 speed swap, get some coilovers, Process West TM and assemble and she's back.

Well at least you have a good plan now. The Foz will rise again!

The best laid plans and all that...

Forester STI drivetrain ordered. I'll likely just chuck it all in, and not go further with body spacer removal etc, especially given I'm using Foz STI components. KISS.

Still need a bunch of other stuff, but it's a start at least.
