I was worried that the coating that came with the headers would be a bit thin, so I bought mine bare and used a local coater recommended by a motorsport friend. They seem to keep the temps down (but haven't measured it yet). With the ELH, after losing my #4 piston to a ring land failure, I wanted to do everything to keep it cool. So I used a set of ELH and an air / oil separator.
I have to admit my car is much quieter now, suits me but not for everyone.

Toby. When was the last time your drove your car?
Sounds like it's been months (if not years) stuck in the garage

Yup, it’s been a while. I have the dump pipe off to measure and cut the standoffs for the shielding.
Funny enough they arrived yesterday

That inner curve is cut pretty straight, but I would have a word with the machine shop about the outer curve being all wonky like that...

Hardly a complete family without a VF46.

Speaking of which, if you'd gone for a VF46 after the TD04, your desire for the perfect turbo would have been satisfied right there :p

I'll just ride off now...

I'm here to tell you that even with my vf46 and e85 I still want that Blouch!

Really looking forward to see how Toby's build pans out.

I on the other hand am waiting for more $$$ to get a built version of our 4eat so I can feel somewhat safe in sticking one of these on myself.

Just quietly, i also dream of bigger turbos

I haven't seen anything convincing about "built stronger" 4-speed auto gearboxes (based on keeping my eyes open and having gone through a gearbox rebuild).

What is definitely worthwhile however is Matt (Throttlehappy) tuning the gearbox lockup points and shift firmness so that the gearbox (behind a more powerful engine) isn't deliberately slipping and wearing-out clutch packs per the factory "smoothness" settings.

Hi Tobyo,

I was looking around for some spray kits and stumbled on this article. Although is is a blurb to sell one of their products, it has some interesting theories on how to best get the spray to work. I thought you may be interested.....
