I fitted the MY11 WRX STi rear 19mm bar to our MY09 XT (p/n 20451FG020 including bushes p/n 20464FG020). I wanted to stick with rubber bushes instead of the Whiteline bushes, so that ruled out the Whiteline bar for me. The rear bar on the MY13 SJ XT looks identical to the standard one on the MY09 XT (16mm OD). There was a table somewhere that showed what the increased stiffness would be on a 19mm OD bar over a 16mm OD bar & I’m fairly certain it was a 99% increase.

I think that STi bar should have been standard on the MY09 XT but the downside was the vehicle noticeably hit potholes & bumps harder on the rear when travelling over our NSW goat track bitumen country roads, which wasn’t so much a problem with that model with its much softer suspension. On a good road it was excellent on that vehicle. Some MY09 owners also reported that the rear tail gate wouldn’t close if parked angle ways on a curb with that bar fitted – but I didn’t come across that problem.

Just a few things to keep in mind if going to a stiffer bar on the rear of the SJs with their stiffer suspension.

Edited for minor clarification.

Yeah the only way to really know if the 22mm is going to be too stiff is to give it a go. I might end up with the 20mm adjustable as like Bryn88 says you are still getting up to 21mm worth.

Japanparts has the RSR springs which several people in the US have put on. What I am not sure on though is the replacement shocks. I would think we will have to replace them as ours are self levelling? But none of the US guys have but I am not sure if they have the same shocks. Tein also have a set of springs listed on their parts list for the SJ, as well as coilovers.

What wheels you looking at?
I really like the Enkei GTC01, but they are around $500 per rim :( so this will be a much later mod lol

Haha we have similar tastes. I am looking at the Enkei TSP6, and they too are around $600 per rim so will have to wait for my second car to be sold.

They look really good asp1135.

With the RSB does anyone know what endlinks fit the SJ? I think I remember one of the American guys swapping his sway bar for an sti bar and our endlinks were slightly longer than the sti one's.

What's the best prices and places to find sway bars?

Best price I've found for a 20mm adj whiteline sway bar is about $275 all up.

I know MRT is selling some stock on ebay for a fair price.

Is anyone attempting to install the RSB themselves on level ground?

I saw MRTs ones on eBay but they're generally selling the 22mm RSB.

I was going to install my own, it will be the first one I've done but I've watched heaps of videos on YouTube and it is a pretty straight forward install, especially since it's plug and play with no alignment needed. Only thing is I want to find some torque settings for the bolts.

I did my own on the SH and it was straight forward. Only hassle I had was I couldn't get one of the suspension bolts undone for love or money. Ended up taking it in to pedders and they just cracked it for me with a nice 4ft breaker bar.

Is it a good idea to use some threadlocker on the bracket bolts?
