Hi there! New Forester owner here. It's an SG XT Luxury I picked up just last week and am loving it so far. Always had a soft spot for the Foz so glad to finally get behind the wheel. This one is a nice one-lady-owner car with relatively low (135k) kms and a seemingly good life so far.

No big plans for mods as it's the daily driver ... but the vast array of Subaru parts on offer is very tempting.

Anyway just had a few observations so far which maybe someone could help me with?

1. On full lock, the car appears to sometimes make an odd droning noise and small vibration from the front - is this normal/common/problematic? It doesn't feel like rubbing.
2. Floor mats - anyone with mats from FitMyCar? https://www.fitmycar.com/au/subaru-fore ... piece/1146
3. TLC maintenance jobs I've collected are as follows - appreciate any additions, comments or suggestions...?
...3.1 Clean MAF Sensor
...3.2 Banjo bolt removal (oil filler neck & intake piping area)
...3.3 Check spark plugs
...3.4 Check engine air filter
...3.5 Check cabin air filter
...3.6 Fit Air/Oil separator (AIG?)
...3.7 Upper engine cleaner
...3.8 Clean throttle body
4. Does anyone have experience with removing the 'rubber bumper protectors' on the corner of the bumpers? I'd like to remove for a cleaner look, if it's feasible...

For how long are you holding full lock? Most manuals say don't do it for more than a second or two because it damages the pump (?). The noise might be the power steering pump protesting.

I also recommend removing & cleaning the PCV valve with carby cleaner when you do this or even before you mess around with catch cans. On the SH it's reachable with a 19mm socket (i think) on/around the back of the inlet manifold.

When you get into catch cans, opinions differ on this, but I recommend staying away from anything that drains back to sump. On a road car you don't want that watery cr@p going back into the sump. Also, those fancy drain-back ones cost more and have more hoses to connect. Running a hose from the the bottom of a simple catch can/s to a ball valve then draining (and being disgusted by) the contents fortnightly works fine for me.

Gave the car a good detail - the red is looking great now! Also some new shoes.
Keeping an eye open for a subtle cat-back or axle-back exhaust to hear a bit of the rumble... and then no more mods, I swear...

G’day ... welcome.

Is it a 4EAT? If you’re full-lock and accelerate, the MPT transfer case can sometimes make those sorts of noises; otherwise, yep, the power steering pump having a whine. Full-lock to the right, the tyre may scrub on the inside at the rear of the wheel-well, especially with wider tyres.

No mods, you say? *what Yowie said*

Have fun
