Hi All,

I just bought a 2001 Forester limited with 102,000K's on the clock.
bought it really cheap and so far to get it road worthy I have replaced the inner CV Boots, Steering boots, A/C and steering pump belts, Drivers side tie rod end and Rear pads.
I've also installed a JVC Double DIN touch screen DVD head unit (about to install reverse camera for the head unit) and bought and re-programmed a second Remote.
Finally I have bought 4 new Khumo KL51's and had a wheel alignment.

Next thing to do is the timing belt and W/pump.

Thanks I called them. Wendy is really a nice person to deal with.
Was quoted $465 for Timing belt kit (includes Hydraulic tensioner) and about $115 for the Water Pump.
I really can't believe it costs so much. Which is why I am trying to see if I can order from the U.S.

The Aisin kit TKF-001 is suppose to fit a 2001 Forester but as it is sold in the USA where I understand the U.S. Foresters were delivered with 2.5 SOHC engine's as apposed to Ozzie ones with 2.0 SOHC.

Are the Timing belts the same between and 2.5 SOHC and 2.0 SOHC engines? at $221 US I think it's worth investigating.
If I can get some advise I will be willing to buy it and post my whole experience here.

OK Thanks that is good to know.
I've started looking at other manufacturers kits and what is sold for 2.5 also says it will fit the 2.0 so this is starting to look good.

Hello,

My two cents,
stick with genuine tbk. Hardly worth a couple dollars saved on such a critical component
Cost you more to rebuild replace engine

That's a fair comment but it's actually not a "couple" of bucks.
It's 1/3rd of the price and Aisin are Japanese OE quality.
A lot of people in way bigger markets than ours use Aisin kits and there is a lot of good feedback out there on them.
