My second car I've owned, first was an 03 convertible turbo Astra so a bit of a change. Had that for 3 years now. I know nothing about cars except for what the Astra has put me through because I did all the servicing and learnt as I go. Broken off exhaust manifold studs, timing belt, brakes, discs, brake fluid flush, air con stuff plus all the other regular service stuff.

I've covered 100k km in that time and have taken it camping and to places a car like that shouldn't go and figured it's time to get something more suited. Hence the Forester. I still have some things to sort out for a roadworthy check and lots to learn and catch up on. I've done the rust repair around the windscreen (did a terrible job) and have the timing belt out at the moment, yet to figure out where I'll put all the seals the kit came with but we'll get there.

At the moment I just want to get it roadworthied but down the track I plan on lifting it and putting some better tyres on it. I guess that will come when I've figured out how a car's suspension works :P the clutch also bites really high but haven't had the chance to look at that yet. The shifter joint also need to be replaced I think. Shifter moves side to side about an inch when in gear.

TL;dr
Hi, bought an 03 Xt and am learning to fix it because I know nothing.

Looking forward to the journey ahead!

Welcome.

The image of taking a convertible Astra camping and parking it near all the "tough 4x4" vehicles cracks me up.
