Should I be double-checking for anything like headgasket, cracked bores etc? I assume milk in oil/coolant is the usual telltale sign, any over giveaways with Subaru's?
This is my first Subaru.. Lol :P
Yeah timing belt kit has been factored in, my work gets them cheap labour will cost a carton

Always comp check.
Head gasket is usually exhaust bubbles in the coolant.

Its' always going to be a crapshoot with an older car :dontknow:.

Since you intend on taking it off road, check engine mounts, gearbox mounts and diff mounts for wobble. Will be perished to s### by now if original and help you negotiate a lower price.

Good luck with it mate.

I ended up paying 3.2k for mine a 206k on the clock.

Spent further dollars on

Centre diff replacement (via reconditioned unit)
Replaced clutch
Timing belt, water pump, tensioner etc.
Rocker cover gaskets

Plus a few other bits

Probably ended up closer to $7k - not all essential work though. Tempted to say I'd have preferred to have bought a later model. Hard to say though. Still very happy with the car.

Got snooked, after looking at it waiting and waiting for about 3 months, it got sold 3 days before I was going to guy up and buy it! Worst part was, it got sold the same day I was gonna put a deposit down!
Admittedly, shed a tear.
Hopefully another comes up soon.
