Of the back of no Forester-specific research, don't car companies tend to dribble out models over the product life cycle.

Eg in order:-

1. basic option new Foresters with some fanfare;

2. luxury and turbo versions with some fanfare;

3. TS / facelift / speed stripes versions (with some fanfare) to give the MY2019 model a free kick;

4. runout sales; then

5. 202x model forester (with some fanfare) with basic options for the moment.

As such, is the hand-wringing about the lack of turbo forester a tad premature?

@Yowie

I don't think that's been the case, at least with recent Foresters. In any case as things stand, it leaves those of us who will be in the market in the next couple of years with a big lack of certainty. I was pretty much a shoo-in for a new XT, but now will be researching other options.

Count me as another very disappointed long term XT owner. I was intending to purchase the 2019 foz (XT of course) as soon as it became available later this year. No way am I settling for a normally aspirated model. Will seriously look at the Volkswagen Tiguan 162 Highline R.

Someone at work has one tsi 162 R. . Nice nice nice! I've driven a hirespec 2.0 tsi and couldn't believe on the highway the thing deactivated 2 cylinders. Impressive fuel economy and had some decent get up n go. I wasn't expecting it from the hirespec vers.

Talked to the local dealer and they reckon the release of the 2019 forester will be a temp thing as the diesel is going due to the tightening emissions rules but there is no news to them about the dropping of the XT 2 litre petrol turbo. Will just have to wait and see I think on this one.
