Hey all.

So just wondering who's had experience or own an MK7 gti, gti performance, gti 40 years or a golf R.

Like reliability or common problems.
And DSG or man.
Practicality /space (two adults one child in it daily also)

After having Subarus for years and seeing the levorg is only cvt I was looking at golf's. And for something different for a change . I do miss the boot space of a wagon/hatch. (previous was an xt foz).

My MY11 wrx sedan is good but the boot space sucks sometimes. Especially when we go on trips.

Cheers for any input.

Mark 7 golf: Google timing chain tensioner fault......

Mark 6 perreli is a good motor - belt not chain.
Can get a lot of power out of the new "r"/ s3.

6spd dsg seem to cope with power, 7spd do not. The interior finish is nice. They are only a hatch so no great boot space, can seat 4 adults reasonably comfortable.

Audi/vw use multiple electronic sensors that will start throwing check engine lights.... id own one under warranty or under 100,000km.. past that it starts to get dubious.

Unfortunately i feel a lot of new cars past mid 2000s have been made to last not much past 100,000km or lease period.

Id look at a mercedes C250 with 7 spd auto. May not offer the outright performance you want, TH tunable... but have a better boot etc.

Even a wagon like this... https://carsales.mobi/cars/details/Merc ... AD-4717572

Or the awd liffted forry like

Using 1l of oil every 1000kms in the gti is apparently normal. 3 sets of dsg clutches in the 7speeds in 100,000kms is apparently nothing to worry about. Been there will never go back

Cheers for the info guys . I'll continue to do some searching.

I like the new shape rex but not sure about the boot space. And the levorg is good but as much as I try and like the cvt (yet to drive one) I can't lol.
Not keen on the new foz.

Don't know how this stacked up for you but a work colleague showed me a skoda 162 tsi wagon. Levorg like except fwd but 6spd manual! Under 8000kms for 38k.
In hero blue!! Same golf engine and finish inside looks good. Wagon + manual + skoda = something different. :dontknow:

If FWD won't do it for your but NEED 4wd wagon then golf r wolfsburg. Downside no manual BUT you will have to do gear swaps with DSG. What a bummer.
